We had some great leftover red wine, so I decided to make a ground turkey red wine ragu. I used ground turkey, carrots, onions, red wine, and a little cream. Good to let simmer as long as possible to let the flavors meld together. Such a simple yet delicious salad - butter lettuce with avocado and sea salt. Perfecto!

Celebrating 6 months of marriage and our first time back at Tahoe since the wedding! My favorite place in the world to drink my morning tea. Make your own pizza night! We used Pillsbury dough which turned out great! Other fun ingredients included: Fresh Mozzarella, Shredded Mozzarella, jar pizza sauce - marinara and alfredo Pancetta, Pepperoni, spicy sausage Onions, peppers, garlic, roasted garlic, mushrooms, green onions, broccoli rabe, olives, pepperoncini 6 months of marriage! Wine tasting time! David puts on a great blind wine tasting game that everyone, including the organizer, can participate in. David's baked ribs and mac and cheese - doesn't get much better than that for a winter in Tahoe!
This is a recipe based off of Rachael Ray's French Onion Soup and is really quite easy and tastes like you've been cooking all day.
Ingredients:
Heather's Directions: I started by heating up butter and EVOO together - butter for the flavor and EVOO to get the heat up. Add all of the onions, sliced in half moons. Then add shallots, garlic and fresh thyme and let everything sweat and get all soft and cozy together in the pot. Once they are getting caramelized, add about a 1/2 cup of Sherry and stir until the Sherry cooks off. Then add a couple tablespoons of flour and cook the flour for a couple minutes to make sure the raw flour taste is gone. Then add the beef stock and let it simmer away for as long as you can. Once you are getting close to suppertime, put in individual bowls and cover with toasted sliced baguette and gruyere cheese and put under the broiler until melted. I put a few sprigs of fresh thyme on top for looks and a bit of extra flavor. We had our wonderful friend, Carrie, staying with us and decided that an exciting brunch was in order. David came up with the idea of Chicken & Waffles, and it turned out great! David based his recipe off of a Kentucky Fried Chicken recipe - 17 spices and he brined the chicken overnight in a buttermilk brine. We got to use our Belgian Waffle maker for the first time, and the waffles turned out great! We cheated a bit with the waffles and the gravy, using package items for both, but it all turned out delicious! We paired it with 100% real maple syrup (heated up in the microwave). Yum!!!
A delicious Sunday night dinner for me and David. Great way to end the weekend! Ingredients: Sage butter / Regular Salted Butter 5 small/medium Lobster tails Chardonnay Lemon 1 Tbsp Flour 1 Yellow Onion 3 stalks Green Onion Fresh Basil Fresh Oregano Fresh Tagliarini Pasta Butter Lettuce salad with shaved onion, cherry tomatoes, avocado and sea salt!
The Drunken Monk cocktails! Beef Tetaki with shaved black truffle and truffle jus - yum! Yuzu Miso Marinated Black Cod wrapped in a Japanese Magnolia Leaf - so good. I think I prefer the miso glaze on the fish, but this fish was just as flakey and delicious as always.
Delicious Bucatini pasta (fresh pasta filled with cheese) with fresh lump crab meat and truffle in a light cream sauce. One of the best pasta dishes I have ever had! It of course went very well with Chardonnay...great dinner with friends at Dick & Jenny's restaurant in the Garden District of New Orleans. Highly recommend! David was so excited to relive one of the great moments of his Bachelor Party in New Orleans by getting a muffuletta sandwich from Central Grocery. We enjoyed the sammies sitting on a park bench overlooking the river and listening to a street performer. I of course gave David some of the big olives but the sandwich was very good. Hurricanes and Mint Julips at Pat O'Briens! Wonderful fried shrimp po'boy fully dresse from Mahoney's in the Garden District. Great local place that was also featured on Diners, Drive Ins and Dives! Any restaurant that says "More Chardonnay" on the menu has my vote! One of the best meals of the trip and a great way to end our New Orleans trip with good friends. Bacon wrapped shrimp and mascarpone grits. Yummy!!! Went splendidly This is what David bought from the store upon our return from 4 days in New Orleans - much needed hydration and detox!
This morning my husband and I were trying to figure out what to do for breakfast. We were just going to make scrambled eggs but he offered to try something which always leads to something exciting. He said he wanted to try to make a fritatta so he looked up the basics of a recipe online and got started.
He pulled out: Egg Whites White Onion Green Onion Parsley Heirloom Tomatos Mashed Potatoes (from a previous meal) Pepper Turkey Thick Sliced Bacon Franks Red Hot Wings Buffalo Sauce Sliced Cheddar Cheese He then mixed all the ingredients in individual ramekins so we would be able to have one with turkey and one with bacon. The results were amazing! What a great breakfast for a Sunday watching the 49ers win agains Carolina. My husband and I always like to talk about what we are going to make for dinner on our shuttle ride home from work - it has actually turned into a joke as I am always the one to ask the question. This week, I tried to be creative and healthy and made Asian Turkey burgers this week - very easy and delicious! David was quite impressed!
Ingredients: Extra Lean Ground Turkey Ginger (out of the tube - super easy and full of flavor!) 1/4 cup chopped white onion Green onion 2 cloves chopped garlic Chopped parsley Ginger soy dressing (adds some oil to the burger) Sweet chili sauce Soy sauce Toppings: Swiss Cheese Thinly sliced red onion Heirloom Tomato Cucumber Cilantro Side of steamed broccoli I mixed all the ingredients together, making sure not to over mix. I thought I added too much of the ginger, so I took some out, but it turned out to be a fine amount to use and really added an "it" factor to the burgers. I grilled them on my new panini press grill and they turned out great! We had such an amazing trip to Kapalua, Maui with David's family, complete with snorkeling, scuba diving, surfing, and some amazing eats - highlights below! Amazing local Hawaiian fish on top of edamame and mushroom risotto with a miso soy ginger sauce. Oh my gras! Seared Foie gras on top seared ahi tuna with truffles... One of my favorite cocktails I have ever had - fresh pineapple juice, vodka, thyme, and coconut foam in a chilled martini glass. Delicious quadrant appetizer - from top left clockwise - kalua pork quesidilla with a spicy dipping sauce, warm crusted goat cheese with pickled onions, avocado and strawberries, ahi poke with terra chips, and lobster on top of heirloom tomato. Our view for dinner at Merriman's at Kapula Beach - gorgeous! Last cocktail in Maui - cucumber and pineapple mojito!
